Full-Arch Dental Implant Prosthetics: What are the Options?

At Warm Smiles Dental Centre, we specialize in dental implants and personalized full-arch restorations. Knowing the differences between these options helps you choose the best solution for your smile and long-term oral health.

When restoring a full arch of missing teeth with dental implants, there are several options of prosthetics. FP1, FP2, and FP3 prosthetics are each designed to replace different amounts of teeth and gum tissue.

What does it mean?

In simple terms, an “FP” stands for Fixed Prosthesis, meaning a permanent set of replacement teeth that’s attached to dental implants. It’s called “fixed” because it doesn’t come out like dentures; only your dentist can remove it if needed.

  • FP1” stands for Fixed Prosthesis Type 1.

The “Type 1” part means this restoration replaces only the teeth, not the gums. It’s used when your natural gum line and bone are still healthy, so the new teeth look like they’re growing right out of your gums, just like natural teeth.

  • FP2 replaces the teeth and a little bit of lost gum tissue.

  • FP3 replaces the teeth and a larger amount of missing gum tissue.

Think of FP1, FP2, and FP3 as three different levels of tooth and gum replacement, depending on how much tissue you’ve lost.

FP1: “Teeth-Only” Restoration

An FP1 prosthesis is ideal for patients who have lost their teeth but still have healthy gums and bone. The prosthetic teeth emerge naturally from the gum line, giving a lifelike appearance without requiring the replacement of gum tissue.

Key features:

  • Replaces only the teeth, not the gums

  • Best for minimal bone and gum loss

  • Looks and feels natural

  • Requires precise implant placement

Best suited for patients with good gum and bone support following tooth loss.

Preserving Your Natural Structure

At Warm Smiles Dental Centre, we focus on preserving as much natural bone and soft tissue as possible. The FP1 approach works with your anatomy, rather than removing or reshaping it unnecessarily.

Why preservation matters:

  • Long-Term Stability: More natural bone means stronger, longer-lasting dental implants.

  • Future Flexibility: Preserving bone now keeps options open for future treatments.

  • Comfort and Speech: FP1 feels lighter and more natural, no bulky pink acrylic or porcelain, and clear, natural speech.

This conservative approach reflects our philosophy at Warm Smiles Dental Centre, where we specialize in dental implants that respect your natural anatomy while enhancing function and beauty.

FP2: Teeth and a Little Gum

An FP2 prosthesis bridges the gap between FP1 and FP3. It’s designed for patients with moderate bone or gum loss. The teeth are slightly longer to fill the vertical space caused by tissue resorption, maintaining a natural look without complete gum replacement.

Key features:

·        Replaces teeth and compensates for mild tissue loss

·        Slightly elongated teeth for a natural result

·        May include minor gum shading for aesthetics

·        Balances appearance, function, and support

Best suited for patients who’ve lost some bone and gum tissue but don’t need the pink gum portion of an FP3.

FP3: Teeth and Gum Replacement

An FP3 prosthesis replaces both teeth and missing gum tissue, making it ideal for patients with significant bone loss or gum recession from tooth loss, gum disease, or trauma.

FP3 restorations include pink porcelain or acrylic that mimics natural gums, restoring both aesthetics and facial support.

Key features:

  • Replaces teeth and gums

  • Ideal for moderate to severe bone or tissue loss

  • Uses pink material for a natural gum appearance

  • Offers excellent comfort, function, and aesthetics

Best suited for patients requiring both functional and cosmetic tissue replacement.

Choosing the Right Full-Arch Solution

Selecting the right prosthesis depends on your unique oral condition. Your dentist will evaluate:

  • Bone density and gum health

  • Smile line and facial support

  • Speech and bite alignment

At Warm Smiles Dental Centre, our experienced team specializing in dental implants uses digital imaging and advanced planning to determine the best solution for your smile.

Whether you’re a candidate for FP1, FP2, or FP3, we’ll ensure your treatment delivers lasting comfort, beauty, and confidence.
